Blue Jean Donation

The Millerizm Group: Derrick, Jahmal and Darius at the Blue Jeans Ball

Blue jeans are not known for typical party attire, but on one night, it didn’t matter.

On Aug. 22, the Millerizm Group, a local entertainment company, hosted the third annual Blue Jeans Ball at Blush Ultra Lounge in Downtown Sacramento. Attendees may have worn jeans there, but many of them donated the denim pants as well. All of the jeans were designated to go to The Salvation Army homeless shelter in Midtown Sacramento (on the corner of North B and 12th Streets).

“In times like these,” said Jahmal Miller, founding partner of the Millerizm Group, “non-profits like The Salvation Army are the ones impacted by this situation, so we thought it would be wise to do something simple like donating to the homeless shelter and hopefully it helps someone.”

In all, 97 jeans were donated on that night.

“We want to thank the Millerizm Group and those who attended the Blue Jeans Ball for their generosity and their heart for the community,” said David Bentley, Salvation Army Sacramento County coordinator. “The jeans will be utilized for those who need it from our shelter program.”

Miller and his brothers first learned of The Army’s B Street shelter during a visit in 2001.

“What stuck out in my mind was how great of an organization (The Salvation Army is), particularly what it does with the homeless shelter in this community,” Miller said. “My brothers and I are Christians, and we definitely appreciate The Salvation Army’s faith based mission and history. “

The Millerizm Group has been hosting live events in the Sacramento for nearly four years.

“We’re all about urban entertainment with social significance,” Miller said. “Particularly for the professional demographic of color within Sacramento who go out and want to have a good time, whether it’s dancing, listening to live music, going to concerts or just hanging out with friends. Based on how we were raised , I just thought it would be good to use the relationships that we have to draw attention to a worthy cause and to invite people to give back to those who are in need within our community. “
