Summer Camp
 | Do you want to make a difference in a child's life? Consider sponsoring a child for a week at camp for only $180! Many children growing up in the Sacramento area are unable to attend a fun and education summer camp due to their parent's financial constraints. Here's your chance to help a child experience the joy of swimming in a lake, canoeing with friends, the camaraderie of bunking with peers, and especially the lasting memory of songs sung by the campfire. The cost of sponsoring a child for a week of camp is $180. Your money will go directly towards sponsoring an individual child, not into a pool of funds. A gift of any amount toward sponsorship goes a long way.

 | Summer Camp - A young kid called Brian prayed. Softly he uttered, "thank you God for bringing me to camp." This summer countless other children will echo this simple prayer at The Salvation Army's summer camp. Over 100 years ago, the Salvation Army recognized the need to establish camps for underprivileged boys and girls. These were called fresh air camps.
Today, the Salvation Army continues to operate sixty camps across the United States with a great deal of success. The need for a camping experience is as vital today as it was yesterday. In Northern California and Northern Nevada, The Salvation Army is meeting the need for hundreds of children in a caring and loving Christian environment. Camp Del Oro outside of Nevada City, California is The Salvation Army's newest camp.
Recently purchased, the 242-acre property is located in a prime location at the foot of the Sierra Nevada. Major Eda Hokom declared, " it is an honor and privilege for us to open up this beautiful camp for the summer camp season. It is always a delight to see the children arriving at camp and having the time of their lives. I know that God will bless all those who enter the gates of Camp Del Oro, again, this year." Hard work goes into ensuring the camp is ready for
a summer program. | | | |

Salvation Army Corps members are instrumental in the process and the transformation is incredible. Tent platforms, and tents together with tee pees have been constructed. A tent chapel was also erected. The campfire ring sits at the bottom of a shady glen, close to fresh water springs. All these structures are temporary, as a master plan is in being established for a full size children's summer camp.
The Del Oro Divisional Youth Department Staff will share their summer with hundreds of young children and a staff. During the one-week sessions, the children who attend camp arrive from Eureka, Reno, Carson City, Santa Rosa, Oakland, Stockton, Sacramento and many points in between. They participate in swimming, arts and crafts, chapel, hiking and making new friends.

The impact The Salvation Army's camp ministry has on the lives of children and staff is priceless. We echo the prayer of Brian, and thank God for bringing the children to camp. To God be the glory for the many lives that will be changed at Camp Del Oro this year and in the years to come.
